Position Title: Information Management & Development Coordinator

Position Description: The Information Management & Development Coordinator is a newly created position. The person will be responsible for assisting the President to implement strategic fundraising efforts -- including help track implementation of annual fundraising plan; assist with prospect research and solicitation logistics; help to write proposals and funder reports; and coordinate online fundraising efforts. This position will also be key to building NHLI’s online capacity to support programs and communications. The person is expected to work closely with the Communications and Online Manager to implement online strategies to achieve program and communication goals and enhance NHLI’s online presence. The individual will assist with website management, coordinate monthly webinars, manage various databases, and assist with social media and creative online efforts.

NHLI seeks a well-rounded individual who can work at a fast pace supporting a vibrant nationwide program. This is a great opportunity for a well-organized, articulate person with strong writing skills and an interest in fundraising and technology to work for a growing national organization. This position reports to the President.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Assist President with implementation of annual fundraising plan.
  • Manage master task list of fundraising assignments to ensure follow through.
  • Maintain/manage funder database (Microsoft CRM) and hard files, track requests and deadlines, and ensure appropriate follow up (e.g., reports, materials).
  • Help identify and research potential funders. Manage master prospect list
  • Help prepare the President for funder visits – prepare background materials and funder packets, coordinate and schedule visits.
  • Help to prepare online grant applications and funder reports. Assist with funder correspondence, including acknowledgement letters for gifts and grants.
  • Explore and recommend online fundraising strategies, including appeal messages, and fundraising campaigns on external websites (e.g., Network for Good, Global Giving, GoodSearch, GoodShop, etc).
  • Support individual donor efforts, including direct mail and online appeals (help draft appeal messages, email blasts, mass mailings, donor acknowledgements)

Website management

  • Work collaboratively with other departments to monitor and ensure information on website reflects current program priorities.
  • Draft, edit and upload content to website, including program updates, articles and posting relevant news.
  • Work with Communications and Online Manager on utilizing new technologies and developing new content for the website (portals, podcasts, videos, blog, etc)
  • Provide analysis and reports on website traffic
  • Assist with webinars, including helping to coordinating logistics, webinar marketing/ promotion, and post-webinar analysis/evaluation report
  • Manage organizational databases
  • Manage general email list and alumnae database, working with program staff to ensure information is current
  • Manage the NHLI Job Bank using JobTarget, serve as point person for job postings and liaison with JobTarget support services

Other administrative tasks as appropriate and required to support program efforts

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work well in a fluid and fast-paced environment.
  • Self starter that is effective at working with limited direction. Ability to solve problems and make decisions independently.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to organize information and data and perform detail oriented work with accuracy and timeliness
  • Highly motivated and passionate about technology, creativity and innovation. Experience and enthusiasm navigating social networking platforms, websites and other online communities.
  • Demonstrated computer skills (Microsoft Office), and experience with databases
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Experience communicating with funders and donors a plus
  • Ability to travel occasionally, 10-20% of time

Preferred/Desirable:

  • Experience managing and/or developing websites; knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and database development and maintenance
  • Design experience, including familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash and Dreamweaver (or other web development software
  • Experience with online marketing, direct mail or fundraising
  • Experience with CRM software
  • Familiarity with the nonprofit world, the Latino community, commitment to NHLI’s mission

About the National Hispana Leadership Institute
The National Hispana Leadership Institute (NHLI), a national 501 (c) 3 organization based in Washington DC, was established in 1987 to address the underrepresentation of Latinas in the corporate, nonprofit and political arenas. NHLI’s mission is to develop Hispanas as ethical leaders through training, professional development, relationship building and community activism. NHLI is the only national organization providing executive leadership programs for Latinas in the U.S. NHLI’s programs have been recognized with several national leadership awards, and receive wide media and community attention.

Position Description:
The National Hispana Leadership Institute, the nation’s premier leadership development organization for Latinas, is seeking a part-time (20 hours) communications intern looking for a credit only internship or volunteering opportunity to start immediately until end of Spring semester or beyond if desired. The communications intern has the unique opportunity to work in and affect all major programmatic areas of the organization. The intern will work in close partnership with NHLI staff responsible for: leadership programs and conferences development; communications, media, and fundraising efforts. The communications intern will be able to take an active program role in new online initiatives. The communications intern has direct working access to NHLI’s President, who has mentored and supervised numerous leaders from across the nation. In addition, NHLI’s interns are exposed to networking, shadowing, and mentoring opportunities with national leaders, and receive ongoing professional development training from staff.

Principal Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research to support communications and program work (i.e. Hispanic demographic, leadership models, etc)
  • Write media, website and program materials as assigned, including newsletter and website articles, etc.
  • Conduct interviews with NHLI’s leaders for a special online project;
  • Help coordinate NHLI’s online training series;
  • Assist with fielding media requests, conduct media monitoring, and provide network database management;
  • Conduct media and community outreach to promote NHLI events and campaigns;
  • Help coordinate NHLI’s social media outreacn
  • Other tasks as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications:
  • Students pursuing the following studies or interested in these fields: English, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Organizational Development, Leadership and Management, Fundraising, or professionals looking for volunteering opportunities in these fields, may apply;
  • Excellent communication, analytical, interpersonal, writing, and research skills;
  • Demonstrated passion for leadership development and advancing communities of color;
  • Dependable, motivated, innovative, flexible, and able to function in a fast-paced deadline driven work environment; Highly organized and detail oriented;
  • Spanish language skills a plus.

This internship involves a range of tasks; some are administrative. The intern’s supervisor will work to make tasks and projects during the semester align, as much as possible, with the intern’s expressed interests. NHLI’s internship opportunities provide well rounded hands-on experience and valuable professional skills. As part of the internship experience, interns attend NHLI events and others as appropriate and are paired up with at least 2 networking and shadowing opportunities with NHLI alumnae and other leaders. A metro stipend is provided.
