Dear NHLI Supporters,
The National Hispana Leadership
Institute (NHLI) has joined a coalition of organizations calling for the establishment
of a Presidential Commission on Women and we are asking our supporters to sign
a petition that will be sent to the new President. The last Presidential
women’s commission was established by President Kennedy in 1961, don’t you
think it’s time for another one?
The effort led by WomenCount —a political non-profit
organization that gives women of all generations and backgrounds from around the
country a powerful voice in the political process— will urge President Barack Obama to create a Presidential
Commission on women in his first 100 days.
The Commission on Women would bring together the best
thinkers across all political parties, generations, backgrounds, ethnicities,
and industry sectors to make change happen.
This election has engaged millions of women from all walks
of life and it is crucial that we capture the passion and enthusiasm generated
and that we address the issues that have emerged (gender equality in pay, the
role of women in rebuilding our economy, etc).
As a growing and powerful Latina community, we must also
assure that Hispanic women are at the center of the conversation and key
partners in any initiative going forward.

Please urge
your friends to sign the effort and help us distribute it widely.
Thanks for supporting this
effort!
Cristina López
