NHLI Welcomes its New Board Officers
NHLI starts 2010 with a new chairwoman, a new slate of officers and a few new members, all who are fully committed to Latina advancement and improving our communities.

Marieli Colon-Padilla, '06 graduate of the Executive Leadership Program and Vice President of Fleishman-Hillard’s FH Hispania, was elected Chairwoman of the Board of Directors. Marieli has served on the board since 2007 and became the Board’s Vice Chair from 2008-2009. With more than a decade of expertise in reaching Latino consumers through marketing efforts for the non-profit sector, bilingual and mono-lingual education for Latinos on social and welfare issues, and bilingual media relations, Marieli brings valuable experience and commitment to the NHLI Board.
In 2009, she was appointed to the Military Leadership Diversity Commission (MLDC), Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness and was invited to America's Leaders of Change (ALOC), a National Urban Fellows program for leaders on the rise in the government, non-profit and private sectors.
A native of Puerto Rico, Marieli serves on the boards of other Latino and women organizations including: the National Alliance for Hispanic Families, and Girls Scouts of the Nation’s Capital. She has also served on the Board of the U.S. Hispanic Leadership Institute; and the Commission to End Health Care Disparities established by the American Medical Association, the National Medical Association, and the National Hispanic Medical Association.
She was was recently selected by Latino Leaders Magazine as one of the “Ones to Watch” in their Inspired Leaders inaugural issue. The December/January issue features 20 Latinos under 40 as rising stars. Click here to read the article. |

Antonia Jimenez, '00 ELP and board member since 2007, was elected Board Vice Chair. A former senior manager at Deloitte Consulting, she recently joined Dartmouth College in New Hampshire where she will work with the President and Senior Vice President leading an enterprise cost reduction effort. |

Emily Gantz McKay, President of Mosaica, the Center for Nonprofit and Pluralism, was elected Treasurer. Emily served on the NHLI Board from 1998 to 2003 and was elected again in 2007. She has 40 years experience in organizational development and technical assistance to nonprofits, and served as Executive Vice President of NCLR for 16 years before she founded Mosaica. |

Barbara DesMarteau,’94 ELP, was elected Board Secretary. Barbara has a long track record of community activism in Denver where she served for more than four years as an appointed official. She was recently appointed as a Deputy Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Labor. |

Maria Cardona is a Principal at Dewey Square Group (DSG). She heads the public affairs practice combining public policy, communications, coalition building, constituency outreach, government relations, traditional and new media. She is also a political commentator on national cable news shows. |

Audrey Alvarado is President/CEO, Alvarado Consulting, a public finance and facilities planning firm and ’88 ELP. Until recently, Audrey was the Executive Director of the National Council of Nonprofit Associations. |

Amanda Caballero, '91 ELP graduate, heads Holmestead Communications, a private consultation services in the areas of management, marketing, public and community relations, health education and resources development. She has a strong background in health prevention and education, nonprofit management and healthcare administration. |
