Ysabel Durón (’90), weekend anchor of San Francisco’s KRON 4 Weekend Morning News was inducted into the National Association of Hispanic Journalists Hall of Fame with Geraldo Rivera, host of Geraldo-at-Large and Juan Gonzales, founder and editor of El Tecolote newspaper, at the 27th Annual Convention/Media & Career Expo held in Puerto Rico in late June. Durón is an Emmy Award-winning journalist and storyteller who broke ground as the first Latina anchor in Chicago mainstream news. Durón has anchored the "Weekend Morning News" for KRON in San Francisco for nearly two decades and has been a fierce advocate for providing resources for cancer education and treatment to underserved communities. After being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease in 1998, Durón produced an award-wining series chronicling her winning battle with the disease and founded Latinas Contra Cancer.

Ingrid Duran (’02), NHLI’s Board Chairwoman and Co-Founder & Principal of D&P Creative Strategies, LLC and PODER PAC, joined other Latina leaders in a discussion about the historic nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court.
A comprehensive web roundtable discussion hosted by Aurelia Flores of Powerful Latinas.com, an NHLI media partner, covers the fundamentals of the nomination and confirmation process for a Supreme Court Justice, Sotomayor’s qualifications and experience, the history-making nature of the nomination, and more.
Other speakers included: Jennifer Martinez, Professor, Stanford University Law School; Ramona Romero, National Board President, Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA); Nina Perales, Southwest Regional Counsel, Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF); Eva Plaza, former Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and former Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (Clinton Appointee) .
