NHLI Goes to Israel

Marisa Rivera-Albert, NHLI President, was part of a delegation of U.S. Latino leaders who traveled to Israel. This unprecedented joint initiative was co-sponsored by the Latino and Latin American Institute of the American Jewish Committee and Project Interchange, and co-hosted by the National Council of La Raza. The objective of the trip was to broaden relations between Israel and the U.S. Hispanic community. The meetings focused on issues dealing with the complexity and challenges of the Middle East region, and the long standing U.S.-Israel diplomatic relations and historical close ties.

“It was a privilege and an honor to have been part of this delegation. To me, on a personal level, it was a fascinating journey that has awakened a tremendous interest in participating on the complex issues affecting the Middle East region, and the challenges of a peace process in the region” said Ms. Rivera-Albert. “We traveled during some very interesting times; days after both Israel and Palestine had their national elections. We had the opportunity to meet with elected officials, journalists, and government officials. Our visits included talks with leadership from the Jewish, Muslim and Christian faiths as well. This historical trip will continue a dialogue between Latino and Jewish leaders on issues of common concerns. The group arrived home even more convinced of the importance of the relationship between the Latino and Jewish communities in both domestic and international affairs.
