NHLI’s Latinas Learning to Lead Summer Youth program
promotes and fosters the development of young college-age Latina leaders
through leadership training, and technical and practical experience, during a
one-week comprehensive curriculum program in Washington, D.C.
Session topics include resume writing and interviewing
skills, effective communication and presentation skills, public policy issues
affecting the Latino community, and other professional and leadership
development topics, including a Clifton StrengthsFinder session at Gallup
University, financial literacy and a technology component.
The 2009 Latinas Learning to Lead program will take place
during the week of June 19-27.
PARTICIPANTS COMMITMENT
The comprehensive one week leadership program requires participants
undivided attention, total dedication and full attendance throughout the
training. Participants must attend all training sessions. Upon graduation from
the program, LLL alumnae are required to participate in NHLI’s Cybermadrina e-mail mentoring program with an alumna from the Executive Leadership
Program, commit to mentoring two younger Latina’s, and create a community
project that will impact at least 25 other individuals.
ELIGIBILITY
Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program and not
graduating before December 2009.
A minimum of 30 semester credits/hours by May 2009.
A minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Between the ages of 17-22.
Demonstrated strong leadership as indicated by on campus
and community volunteer and civic engagement.
Have a strong commitment to Latina/o issues.
COST
With the help of our generous sponsors and foundation
support, the National Hispana Leadership Institute covers round trip airline
travel, room and board, training costs and all classroom materials necessary
for the program for all participants. Students are responsible for covering
their own medical and travel insurance and any incidental expenses.
