For Immediate Release: September 6, 2005 “It is a tremendous honor to be recognized by such respected American institutions,” said Marisa Rivera-Albert, NHLI President. “These awards are a testament to the Latinas who have benefited from our programs and are advancing at the highest levels of the U.S. workforce and public service. The Latina leaders who have come through our doors are positively impacting the fabric of this nation and these awards help validate this evolution of leadership in America today.” The Center for Creative Leadership, ranked among the Top 10 providers of executive education worldwide by the Financial Times, announced NHLI as the recipient of their 2005 Distinguished Alumni Award to be presented on October 5, 2005 during their annual Friends of the Center Leadership Conference in New Jersey. The award is traditionally presented to an alumnus of their organization who has honored the accomplishments and continuing growth and development of individuals and organizations. This is the first time that CCL will honor an organization in this manner. “We are pleased to make this special presentation of the Distinguished Alumni Award because of NHLI’s unique role as a minority leadership network that supports leadership development for its members. NHLI has created a distinguished community of CCL alumni through its enduring commitment to developing innovative, ethical and highly effective leaders” said John R. Alexander, CCL President. Independent Sector, the nation’s largest leadership forum for charities, foundations and corporate giving programs, will recognize NHLI with its 2005 Leadership IS Award during their Annual Conference on October 25, 2005. The award is presented to outstanding organizations for their leadership in investing in the people of the independent sector and for incorporating the development of future leaders in its policies and daily operations. Along with receiving this prestigious recognition, NHLI will also receive a gift of $10,000. “The National Hispana Leadership Institute has brought the voice of the Latinas to business, politics, and civic life in America,” said Diana Aviv, President and CEO of IS. “NHLI’s proven track record with alumnae, outreach programs, and mentoring programs make it well deserving of this year’s Leadership IS Award. The United States Hispanic Leadership Institute, one of the most powerful, nationally and internationally recognized Latino organizations in the country, presented Marisa Rivera-Albert, NHLI President, with the 2005 Cesar Chavez Award on March 11, 2005 in Chicago, Ilinois. The award, named for the late Cesar Chavez, founder of the United Farmworkers Union, recognized Mrs. Rivera-Albert for her leadership and outstanding community service on behalf of the Hispanic community advocating for civil rights, social and economic justice, and equal opportunity. NHLI is the premier organization in the United States dedicated to developing Hispanic women as ethical leaders through training, professional development, relationship building and community and world activism. NHLI has been serving the Latina community since 1988 through its NHLI Executive Leadership program, the Latinas Learning to Lead Youth Institute and the Latina Empowerment Conferences. NHLI is the only leadership development program that includes two of the top leadership development programs in the country, Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and Center for Creative Leadership. NHLI has empowered many Latinas to run for office, launch new businesses, maneuver up the corporate ladder, and run successful nonprofit organizations among many other successful career paths. Through its regional Latina Empowerment Conferences, NHLI has provided Latinas across the country with leadership development training.
