Esperanza Gama
Esperanza Gama

Esperanza Gama was born and educated in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, earning a BFA from the University of Guadalajara in 1984. She taught painting and drawing at universities in Guadalajara and France, and traveled widely until settling in Chicago, Illinois in 1994.
Esperanza received the Sor Juana Achievement Award for Visual Arts from the Mexican Fine Arts Museum, Chicago in 2003, and Illinois Arts Council Grants in 2005-2007. Recent selected exhibitions include Los Mágicos, a 2006 solo exhibition marking her as the first Latina to exhibit at the prestigious Union League Club Gallery in Chicago; Caras Vemos, Corazones No Sabemos: The Human Landscape of Mexican Migration, a 2006 group show organized by Snite Museum of Art, University of Notre Dame, now traveling throughout the United States and Mexico; and Día de los Muertos: A New Beginning, a 2007 group show at the National Museum of Mexican Art, Chicago.
